Stillness within Motion draws inspiration from imagery on a 2,200-year-old Han Dynasty jade cosmetic box, (Lord Zheng commissioned someone to craft an auspicious jade box for his sister, Lady Wu.) reimagining three symbolic figures: a tortoise, a human-like dragon, and an archer which reflect the harmony between movement and tranquility, proposing that true balance is found not by escaping life’s momentum, but by discovering stillness within it. These ancient motifs emerge within expressive ink washes and layered botanical forms, creating a composition that flows with energy and transformation.

Three open half circles quietly punctuate the painting, introducing moments of stillness amid motion. Rather than representing absence, they symbolize spaciousness, clarity, and inner balance. While the surrounding forms evoke growth, change, and the forces of the external world, the circles suggest a heart and mind that remain calm, grounded, and undisturbed.
