Description

The artist got inspiration from Green and Yellow Jade Immortal Pendant and combined with her own style of flower vase from Qing Dynasty Emperor Qian Long etc.  The artist wants to express that nothing is right and nothing is wrong, it all depends on our thoughts!

Among Chinese jade artifacts, there is a category of deity figure motifs that is extremely mysterious and has sparked extensive discussions among experts and scholars. Currently, multiple academic interpretations have emerged regarding deity motifs, but many questions remain unresolved, and they still pose an unsolved mystery. This jade pendant represents a deity figure, intricately carved on both sides, forming a complete human face from both the front and back. The facial features are uniquely shaped, with a prominent nose and bulging eyes, while the rest of the face is depicted with raised cord patterns. The top of the head is adorned with a twisted rope pattern hat, which features a cicada carved at the crown. The posture and image of the deity convey a strong sense of mystery. The edges of the jade ornament are uneven, sometimes resembling a back of a blade, sometimes forming rounded hooks, or symbolizing wings, altogether creating a mysterious deity figure. This deity pendant does not have a hole for wearing; the lower end is plain and unadorned, possibly designed to be inserted at the top of a scepter and secured with silk cord. It is likely owned by the highest ruling class of the time to signify power, or it could be an important ceremonial object for state sacrifices.

The Green and Yellow Jade Immortal Pendant was auctioned for 4.75 million RMB in Beijing, China at Gu Tian Yi Auction Company at Spring  Auction 2022.
