Paths Connecting Memory, History, Art, and Creativity

Roots and Metamorphosis – Maxine Xu

Commentary by art critic Dr. Giuseppe Simonetti

A Temporal Echo Between Tradition and Modernity Maxine Xu ‘s work exists within a subtle tension, a tension between the past and the present, between the solid foundation of Chinese culture and the fluidity of contemporary change. Her artistic journey is itself a journey of identity recognition, where collective memory and modern sensibility intertwine in a personal painting language full of symbolism and introspection. Maxine explores the narrative power of images as a tool of connection: her stated intention is to build a bridge connecting the ancient and the modern, while her work evokes the continuity of the human spirit beyond time.

This artist draws inspiration from works that embody strength, elegance, and protection, becoming a symbol of the dialogue between tradition and innovation. Her art transcends the visual realm: each piece seems to invite the viewer into a meditative reflection on nature, identity, and cultural resilience. Ms. Xu skillfully combines refined form with profound concepts, creating paintings that are both contemplative and revelatory. In this rapidly changing era, Ms. Xu’s exploration stands out for its tranquil and profound qualities. Her works are not clamorous, but whispering, reminding us that contemporary voices can still resonate within the quiet rhythms of tradition.

From November 7th to 17th, 2025, a small solo exhibition entitled “Roots and Metamorphosis in the Picturesque” will be held in Torre Pelosa (Via Pitagora 7/9 Torre A Mare (BA)). The exhibition is curated by Dr. Rosa Didonna, Artistic Director of Globalart gallery (via Ugo Foscolo 29, Noicattara 70016 Bari (Italy)).
