My journey as an artist is deeply rooted in the rich tapestry of Chinese culture, interwoven with a fascination for the evolving narratives of modern society. Through my paintings, I seek to bridge the ancient and the contemporary, exploring themes of tradition, identity, and the human spirit amidst rapid change.
My art is a dialogue between the enduring legacy of Chinese artistic traditions and the dynamic expressions of contemporary creativity. Through my unique visual language, I explore themes that resonate with both ancient wisdom and modern sensibilities, particularly drawing inspiration from the symbolism of the Han Chi figures and the organic beauty of nature. My aim is to craft paintings that are not only aesthetically captivating but also invite viewers into a deeper contemplation of cultural heritage and the timeless spirit within us all.
Born in Beijing, China, into a well-educated family, my artistic journey began at the tender age of eight, when I started learning Chinese Calligraphy. This early training provided a strong foundation for my later immersion in Chinese brush painting, which I began at the age of ten. The discipline and elegance of these traditional forms instilled in me a lasting appreciation for the meticulous craft and philosophical depth of Chinese art.
In 1997, I moved to the United States to further my studies, successfully earning my Master Degree from Oklahoma City University in 1999. For years, my focus remained primarily on academic pursuits and professional endeavors. It was only after the passing of my grandmother that her memory reignited my true passion for art, a rediscovery that allowed me to refine my skills and significantly broaden my artistic perspective.
I have developed a distinctive style that merges the traditional with the new. I uniquely combine traditional Chinese colors with Western Acrylic colors in my paintings, a creative approach that has proven highly effective and well-received by art lovers worldwide. The result is a body of work that presents the wonder of discovery in each piece. Art that is traditional yet fresh, always gentle, graceful, and magical.
While my expertise encompasses painting abstract flowers and vibrant fruits, I take particular pride in my unique interpretations of the Han Chi. These ancient Chinese mythical creatures hold deep personal significance for me, embodying prosperity, good fortune, happiness, and completeness. Han Chi is not a specific figure itself, but a group of figures all carved in jade artifacts from the Han Dynasty. These magical images originating from ancient Chinese jade that has been buried underground for millennia, is believed to possess an undying spirit. The profound symbolism and rich history of Han Chi deeply resonate with me, making it a central and recurring subject in my body of work.
I always had a passion and devotion to painting. My area of expertise lies in depicting the Han Chi, recurring motif in my work. The reason I focus on Han Chi stems from its powerful symbolization of prosperity, good fortune, happiness, and completeness. The Han Chi as a group of figures carved in jade artifacts buried underground for thousands of years and is believed to possess an enduring spirit.
I am a contemporary artist reinterpreting ancient Chinese symbolic forms through a hybrid East-West painting modern visual language centered on the Han Chi. I genuinely believe that my paintings embody and radiate these positive energies, offering them to every viewer.
